How It Works

From first phone call to final install.

Most kitchens take 6–10 weeks from initial design to install. Here's what happens at each step, what we'll need from you, and roughly when. No surprises, no jargon — just a clear walkthrough so you know exactly what to expect.

1
Week 1
Step One

Consultation.

A free, no-pressure conversation. We meet at your home or in our Prescott showroom to talk about what you're trying to accomplish — style, layout, budget, timeline.

This is the time to bring inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, anything that sparks your interest. We'll talk through what's realistic, where we can save you money, and where it's worth investing. By the end, you'll have a clearer picture of which brand (Bertch, Crown, or in-house custom) fits your project and a rough budget range.

If we're not the right fit for what you're after, we'll tell you. No hard sell.

What we'll need from you
  • Inspiration photos or Pinterest boards (optional but helpful)
  • Rough budget range — even a wide one is fine
  • Timeline expectations (move-in date, holiday hosting, etc.)
  • Floor plan or rough sketch if you have one
Time investment
45–60 min

Free. Showroom or in-home. We come to you anywhere in our service area.

2
Week 1–2
Step Two

Measure.

Once you've decided to move forward, we come back with measuring tools and document your space precisely. Cabinet design lives or dies on accurate measurements.

We measure walls, windows, doors, plumbing locations, electrical, ceiling heights, and any obstructions. We note whether walls are square (they rarely are in older Prescott homes) and how that affects the design. We take photos for our records.

If you're doing a full remodel and walls are coming out, we coordinate with your contractor on what the final dimensions will be.

What we'll need from you
  • Access to the space for ~1 hour
  • Confirmation of any structural changes (walls coming out, etc.)
  • Decisions on appliances if they affect cabinet sizing
  • Your sink and faucet selections (or plans to make them)
Time investment

In your home. We schedule around your availability.

Week 2–3
Step Three

Design.

We turn your measurements and ideas into a real design. You'll see 3D renderings of every angle, swatches for the door style and finish you've chosen, and a fixed-price quote.

Most projects take 1–2 design revisions. We expect you to want changes — that's the whole point. Move things around, swap a door style, ask "what if we did open shelving here instead?" Anything's fair game.

Once you sign off on the design and quote, we collect a 50% deposit. That deposit covers your cabinet order with the manufacturer (or our shop, for custom builds).

What we'll need from you
  • Feedback on the first design draft (usually within a week)
  • Final material decisions: door style, wood, finish, hardware
  • Your countertop, backsplash, and tile selections
  • Signed agreement and 50% deposit
Typical timeline
1–2 weeks

Includes 3D renderings, revisions, and final quote.

Week 3–8
Step Four

Build.

Your cabinets are now in production — either at Bertch (Iowa), Crown (their facility), or in our Prescott shop for custom work.

Lead times vary by brand and complexity. Crown is typically the fastest at 4–6 weeks. Bertch averages 6–8 weeks. Custom in-house builds depend entirely on scope (a single mantel might take a week; a full custom kitchen is 6–10 weeks).

You don't have to do anything during this phase — but we recommend using the time to handle anything that needs to happen before install: demo the old kitchen, run any new electrical or plumbing, prep the floors, etc. We'll give you a detailed prep checklist.

What we'll need from you
  • Schedule any contractor work that has to happen before install
  • Confirm install dates as your finish line approaches
  • Plan a temporary kitchen setup if you're remodeling your only one
  • Patience — this is the longest waiting phase
Lead time by brand
4–10 weeks

Crown: 4–6 wks · Bertch: 6–8 wks · Custom: varies

Final week
Step Five

Install.

Cabinets arrive at our shop, we inspect every box for damage and accuracy, then our install crew brings everything to your home and puts it together.

A typical kitchen install takes 3–5 days depending on scope. Bath vanities are usually 1 day. Built-ins and mantels are 1–2 days each. We coordinate with your countertop fabricator to template after the boxes are set, then come back to install hardware and do final touches once the counters are in.

The remaining 50% balance is due at install completion. We do a walkthrough together, fix any punch-list items, and answer questions about care and maintenance.

What we'll need from you
  • Clear access to the work area
  • Decisions on small finishing details (knob placement, etc.)
  • A walkthrough at completion to flag anything we should fix
  • Final 50% payment at completion
Install duration
1–5 days

Kitchens: 3–5 days · Baths: 1 day · Built-ins: 1–2 days each

Common Questions

Questions we get a lot.

If your question isn't here, give us a call at (928) 830-9357 or send a message through the contact form.

How much will my project cost?

It depends on scope, brand, and material choices, but for ballpark: a Crown kitchen typically runs $15K–35K just for cabinets and install. Bertch tends to be $20K–50K. Custom in-house work is quoted per project. We'll give you a real number after the consultation, not an estimate based on square footage.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes — 50% deposit when you sign the design and quote. The remaining 50% is due at install completion. The deposit covers your cabinet order; we don't pocket it before the project starts.

Can I change my mind during the design phase?

Absolutely. The design phase is built for changes — we usually go through 1–2 revisions. Once cabinets are in production (Step 4), changes get expensive because the manufacturer has cut materials.

Do you handle countertops and appliances?

We don't supply countertops or appliances directly, but we coordinate with your countertop fabricator and appliance vendor to make sure everything fits and the schedule works. We have local partners we recommend.

Can you work alongside my general contractor?

Yes — we work with GCs on most full remodels. They handle demolition, framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, flooring; we handle cabinetry design and install. We coordinate timelines so install happens at the right point in their schedule.

What if something arrives damaged?

We inspect every cabinet at our shop before it goes to your home. If we find a manufacturer defect, we order a replacement and continue with the install around it. Our crew handles all warranty claims with the manufacturer — you don't have to deal with it.

How far do you travel?

Our service area is Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, and Sedona. We've worked further out for the right project — call to ask about your area.

What's the warranty?

Bertch and Crown both offer manufacturer warranties on their cabinets (Bertch: lifetime limited, Crown: lifetime limited). Our install workmanship is warranted for 1 year. Custom in-house builds carry our 1-year shop warranty.
